Congo Trade Centre
A 23-storey mixed-use tower in Kinshasa: retail, hotel and apartments.
The Congo Trade Centre stacks three different lives into one tower. Retail occupies the ground plane, a five-star hotel takes the middle of the building, and apartments sit above — which means three separate arrival sequences, three servicing strategies and three structural grids had to be reconciled into a single shaft. The elevation absorbs this by banding grey stone against blue glazing, so the changes of use read as rhythm rather than as a building that cannot decide what it is.
Built for Modern Construction Congo across 7 lac sq.ft and 23 floors, at a cost of Rs 280 cr. The programme covers 40,000 sq.ft of ground-floor shopping, 3 lac sq.ft of five-star hotel at 210 keys, 90 luxury apartments across fifteen upper floors, and two levels of basement parking.
